For thousands of years, Aboriginal nations from the Sandalwood growing regions of Western Australia used the Sandalwood tree to provide protection, food and medicine and they consider it a sacred tree. |
Economic and social disadvantage among Indigenous communities in the Central Desert Region has grown throughout colonialism, resulting in ongoing systemic inequality. Poor life expectancy and physical health, intergenerational trauma, economic disadvantage, social behaviour issues are just some of the challenges that communities face.
The elders and community leaders are calling for support from all around the globe and regionally to work alongside them in building culturally strong children and youth - the future leaders of their communities. They want to build viable futures so their youth will stay on country and near their homelands - to be able care for its lands, habitats and manage its resources. The Dutjahn Foundation is responding to this by working directly with Indigenous communities to build capacity, facilitate and fund education programs and activities, skills development workshops and training programs for all sectors in sandalwood growing regions, especially the young adults and children. We need your help to make a bigger impact. |
We work alongside Aboriginal communities and native title holders who have wild Sandalwood on their lands to strengthen and build their communities.
We focus our projects on supporting them to achieve their goals - economic livelihoods and opportunities based on ecological management and care of their lands and its resources.
