Students and families showcase Martu culture and language to worldwide and regional audience.

THE STORY

This project not only addresses the digital divide that exists for Indigenous remote communities, but also demonstrates how VR technology can be used to teach and promote Martu culture to local and worldwide audiences, reducing isolation from other communities. In addition, new VR skills gained here offer students tech career pathways enabling them to remain on country.

Making the virtual reality Martu seasonal calendar

This project centres on the creation of a walk-through virtual experience of the Martu seasons in Martu and English languages. Within the virtual Martu seasonal calendar will be students’ real and digital artwork, as well as audio such as elders speaking language, sounds from country, and music by local musicians. This virtual experience will be launched virtually worldwide as well as locally.
